| Lake Garda Public Transportation in Wintertime | | Print | |
The QuestionThank you so much for your site! It has been a great help to me in planning to move to Desenzano.I have a few questions for you about transport that I haven’t been able to find answers to elsewhere on the web. I was told by one person that there is a very, very basic ferry service in winter but by another that the ferries stop completely between November and March. Which is true? Also I heard that the bus service around the lake stops in winter. Does that mean the only way to get from one town to another (I will be in Desenzano but my friends are in Lazise and Riva) will be to drive? And – last question – I notice you say that cars are not allowed in the centre of Desenzano, are cycles? Many thanks Maggie The AnswerRegarding the ferry in wintertime, here is a link to their wintertime schedule: The Lake Garda Ferry Timetable (Just press Desenzano / Riva del Garda or Riva del Garda / Desenzano) Bicycles are allowed everywhere. As to the cars not being allowed in the center, if your hotel is in that zone you can drive up to your your hotel to leave or pick up your baggage only. The no-drive zone is not big however and will not cause any major problems. Walking distance is never more than approx. 5 minutes from the nearest car park. (On Tuesday morning the no-drive zone gets bigger from the early morning until just after noon. See below link, "Car parking Desenzano") More information on this subject can be found in the following places on this website: (see below links) Desenzano Central station, trains and busses Read the disclaimer |
