Milan ItalyOne of the places you have to go to is Milan (Milano). I have gone there three times now and I find it very interesting place to go visit.
To Milan by carIt is about one and a half hours drive and I recommend taking the highway. Taking the highway to Milan, which is a toll road, you pay if I recall under 10 euros pr. way if you take it is a much better way to go.To Milan by trainIf you go by train it is about one and a half hours trip and costs from 7-15 euros one way, depending on trains and first or second class. The trains go west from 6:30 to around 10:00 but when you go back, east, they run until approx. midnight. The train marked IR (InterRegionale) are a bit slower but cheaper, the IC (InterCity) and EC (Eurocity) cost more but go faster or about one hour ten minutes.Where to go when in MilanoThere are a number of things to see in Milano. I will not go into detail here but recommend a few. The Duomo, Milanīs Cathedral is worldly known for itīs spectacular presence. The opera house, La Scala, is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. Castello Sforzesco, a castle worth taking a look at. The national museum of science, where you can see the works of Leonardo da Vinci. Santa Maria delle Grazie, where you can see Leonardo da Vinciīs Last Supper. There are other things to but I wonīt go into detail as you can write a whole website about Milano:) But if you see these things only in your one day trip you have made a "very much worth it" one day trip.
What to look out for in MilanThe restaurants down town are very expensive and quality doesnīt always go hand in hand with the price. Parking can be very difficult to find, but with some circling around you will find a parking house and if very lucky a parking space by one of the side streets of the center. I went to a parking house which was a private one and they charge you a rather high amount but nothing serious though. I think I paid about 20 euros for my parking then for a day. If you have a handicapped sign you can find special parking spots in very good locations in Milano, so you donīt have to go far from your car to see the sights. (They have strict rules on supplying those because of EU regulations I was told.)Map Desenzano to MilanThis map is from Desenzano del Garda to the opera house, La Scala in central Milano.View Larger Map Links related to the articleMilan article, internal linksDesenzano Train Station Desenzano Tourist Information Milan article, external links Castello Sforzesco official webpage La Scala Opera house, official website The national science museum, official website Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, wikipedia |
