The Rome Opera House
The Rome Opera House
I went to Rome in October 2007 to see Alban Berg´s Wozzeck in the Opera house in Rome, (Teatro dell´Opera). It was very interesting, I had never seen this opera production before though I have listened to it. It was very interesting, reminded me of a Fellini movie if you know what I mean;) I saw it twice and I was delighted both evenings.
I took the train from Verona and I was about 5 hours in route. One of the principal singers in this opera production is a friend of mine and he invited me to see/listen to him perform.
If you are going to Rome you should stay at least 2 nights. There is so much to see there. You could make it a very interesting Friday to Sunday trip. I am not going to go through all you can see in Rome as it is far to big of a project but to name a few, go see the the Vatican (and St. Peters), The Colloseum, Fontana di Trevi, The Roman Forum, The Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Palazzo nouovo, The Spanish Steps and Villa Borghese.
And as you are a Opera fan, check out Terme di Caracalla which is a opera venue in summer time and these three; Castello St. Angelo, Church of San Andrea de la Valle and Palazzo Farnese which are all sites from Puccini´s Opera, Tosca.
Travel time to Rome: 5 hours
Cost pr. person (Train): 50 euros
Cost pr. night in a hotel: I stayed at a friends house. Standard hotel prices. But I would go for a hotel in the center somewhere so you won´t spend all of your time commuting to and from the hotel.
