The Question

Ciao from Bangkok

Please advise how I can vist Garda Lake for half day from Verona. I heard that Desenzano will be the good place. How could I travel around ? I will stay in Verona only one night so not much time to stay there.

The Answer

It is very easy to get to Desenzano from Verona. Just take the train at the Verona Train station which is in walking distance from down town, also most busses go there. (a busticket is 1.2 euros) There are two trains mainly that go to Desenzano, the Inter Regionale market IR and Inter City market IC. These go every hour from 6 in the morning until 10 in the evening. Price of round trip train tickets are from 5(IR)-10(IC) euros and the train takes about 25-30 minutes each way.

When in Desenzano you can either walk down town or take the bus. (bus is 1 euro)

When going back to Verona, well just to the above in reverse. Remember that the local Desenzano busses stop around 20:00, but you can always walk (15min) or take a taxi for 6-7 euros.

If you go by car I recommend the highway, it costs 2-3 euros but is much quicker and easier to go. Just get yourself to the Higway and go for Milano and/or Brescia, after about 15 minutes start checking for the Desenzano sign. It will be a right turn. It will take you about 15-25 minutes on the highway it self, depending on speed. The highway part is about 35km. The speed limit is most often 130 km/h. When you go back, you should be aiming for Verona and/or Venezia. The name of the highway is A4/E70.
